R250: Life and Times at Boston College: What is a Jesuit University? in Splash Fall 2011 (Nov. 13, 2011)
In order to answer the question "what is a Jesuit University?" this course will compare the philosophy of BC to student life on/off campus. In what ways does BC attempt to distinguish itself from other colleges and universities? What do "liberal arts" have to do with anything? What is college life like in America? With these questions in mind, we will discuss various perspectives on the college experience.


R46: Why We Do What We Do in Splash Fall 2010 (Nov. 06, 2010)
Have you ever been frustrated by something a person in your life has done/said to you? Disappointed by something you have done or failed to do? Surprised by yourself or someone in your life? This class will contrast various perspectives on human freedom and choice. How free are we? Do we decide what happens in our life or do preexisting circumstances and past choices determine our fate? A spectrum of sociological/historical, philosophical/theological, and psychological approaches will be examined from popular culture (film) and classic authors pertaining to these subjects.
