R342: Philosophy of Tolkien's Middle Earth in Splash Fall 2011 (Nov. 13, 2011)
J.R.R. Tolkien's literary universe, from its conception to the final tales told, is full of insights into the philosophies of our own lives. This course will survey the history of his Earth, prominent figures and events, along with the major themes that shed light on what it means to be a an actual human tied to the rock we all live on. There's poetry, there's philosophy, there's war, and there are wizards that make it all go swimmingly.
