X494: What to Do with Good Intentions in Splash Spring 2012 (Apr. 01, 2012)
“Be the change you want to see in the world” – Ghandi. College life offers many opportunities for students to get involved, participate, and especially to give back. This class is for students who are interested in learning about social justice and how Boston College uses the idea of service-learning to go beyond volunteering in order to evoke change. Come hear from fifteen BC students share their service-learning experience traveling to the heart of Mexico. We will actively engage students in a fun and interesting Market Basket activity that will aim to shed light on the economic disparities in both Mexico and back here in Boston. Students will also hear monologues of two migrant workers’ experience in the US and have the opportunity to be apart of an outreach project. The hope is that you will leave this class inspired with a new perspective on social justice and an idea about what to do with good intentions.
