S1403: The Physics and Biochemistry of Taylor Swift Lyrics in Splash Fall 2015 (Nov. 15, 2015)
"Drop everything now. Meet me in the pouring rain..." "Loving him is like driving a new Maserati down a dead-end street..." "Baby now we've got bad blood..." Taylor Swift is more than just your typical country-pop icon. I don't know about you...but to her fans, her lyrics demand careful attention and analysis. From them, we gain important lessons about love, heartbreak, and being fearless. Taylor's lyrics also raise many questions about basic physical and biochemical processes. With what velocity and acceleration does Taylor drop everything? With what force will she collide her Maserati at the end of the dead-end street? What are the biochemical foundations that lead to common disorders of the blood? We will be using the lyrics of Taylor Swift as a starting point to explore the introductory concepts in physics and biochemistry that make us excited about science while also providing a space for reflection on the role of Taylor Swift in our lives and worlds!
