Brief Biographical Sketch:
Joseph is a Sophomore at Boston College where he is perusing a degree in political science and environmental studies. Joseph works extensively with the Sierra Student Coalition (SSC). The SSC is the student run branch of the Sierra Club, the nations largest, oldest, and most influential grassroots environmental organization. Was elected to the Executive Committee (the national governing body) of the SSC in July 2010 and he currently serves as the committee's Chair. Joseph attend COP15 (the UN Climate Change Summit) in Copenhagen, Denmark last December with the SSC. Since COP15 Joseph has served as the Florida State Coordinator of Show Me Democracy (SMD). SMD is a student run organization committed to achieving the passage of comprehensive climate change legislation. As State Coordinator, Joseph brought together a coalition of businesses, religious groups, student and veteran organizations that represented 5000 Florida voters. Joseph also lead the SSC's delegation to COP16 in Cancun, Mexico in 2010 and will lead the SSC's delegation to COP17 in Durban, South Africa this December. On top of all of this, he is the External Affairs Director of BC's environmental group EcoPledge. This class is for any student who is interested in politics, so-
cial justice, human rights, or environmental issues and wants
to do something to advocate for one of these issue. We will
be giving a crash course in community organizing, educating
students on the basic skills they need to mobilize there peers
to support a cause. While this class will be taught through
the lens of environmental justice, the skill acquired can be
used for any campaign.
